NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Dean Koontz's home office is filled with things he treasures: family photos, Japanese scroll paintings, a collection of art deco-era Bakelite radios, a dog bed in the corner for his golden retriever, Anna.
The Zen-like atmosphere flows throughout his 24,000-square-foot Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home notched into a hillside high above this coastal city.
"This house is a horrible indulgence," says Koontz, who for the first time is welcoming a reporter into his home to talk about his life and books. "But I never had a real home when I was a kid."
